4/17 Community Meeting - cancelled

We are cancelling the Community Meeting that was scheduled for tomorrow due to the many schoolwide events this week.Next Community Meeting will be May 15th!

Dear K-4 Caregivers,

The week kicked off with our rainbow-colored photo shoot led by parent and professional photographer, Inna Kochura. She was a true pro—expertly posing each group and climbing atop a ladder to get the perfect angle. Despite the chilly Monday morning temperatures, she managed to capture some incredible smiles from everyone involved. We are so excited to see the final shots on the yearbook cover!

We were thrilled to see such a fantastic turnout for Literacy Night this past Tuesday. Students of all ages dove into a variety of creative stations, from crafting bookmarks and puppets to competitive rounds of Book Bingo, Sentence Relay, and Roll and Read.

A few highlights included:
  • Campfire Reading: A cozy, "chill" atmosphere for getting lost in a good book.
  • Special Guests: A huge thank you to Superintendent Parry Graham and Assistant Superintendent Torrance Lewis for their engaging story time sessions!
  • Community Support: Shout out to the PTO for coordinating the pizza dinner and our teachers for designing such a fun-filled evening.

Please click here to complete a survey on our event. We would love to get your feedback!

Today, the gym transformed for the highly anticipated Domino Day! Thanks to your overwhelming generosity, Lincoln School is donating 480 boxes of cereal to the Lincoln & Weston St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry. Parent volunteers, along with teacher leaders Nicole McDonagh and Rachel Goldner, set up a massive, winding trail of cereal boxes throughout the gym. When the music started, the first box fell, triggering a spectacular chain reaction that celebrated the power of our community coming together for a great cause.

One more school day an then we will be on break. Wishing everyone a happy and fun April vacation week!

Sincerely,

Sarah

Kindergarten 2026-27

Dear Families,

We are excited to be preparing for the 2026-27 kindergarten classes and look forward to meeting our youngest students and their families!

GET TO KNOW US!
We have a Kindergarten Information video that introduces you to Lincoln School staff and provides information about learning and the school day. Please click here to view the 5-minute video and bring any questions you have to orientation on May 28th.

ORIENTATION - May 28, 2026 at 8:30 or 1:00
Rising kindergarteners and their parent(s)/caregiver(s) are invited to come to school on Thursday, May 28th during the school day for Kindergarten Orientation! We will meet in the Learning Commons and then walk the children to a kindergarten classroom where they will play, color, enjoy a read aloud and more. This teacher will be your child’s orientation day teacher but will not necessarily be your child’s teacher in the fall.

While the children are in the classrooms, parent(s)/caregiver(s) will attend a meeting with the building administrators and the literacy and math specialists. Parents/caregivers of students who did not attend the Lincoln Preschool will complete a home language survey with the EL teacher.

If you are not sure if your child will register, please do complete the form so you can recieve updates!

REGISTRATION
Children must have reached the age of five (5) before October 1, 2026 to enter Kindergarten. The Lincoln Public Schools also enroll employee children who have been approved by the School Committee and Boston resident students through the METCO Program.

Here is a link to the online New Student Registration
*Students attending LPS Lincoln Preschool are already registered and need only to complete this form.

You will fill out student and caregiver information, and upload documentation listed below.

  • Birth Certificate
  • Proof of Residency
  • Health and Medical Forms

*Students enrolled through the METCO program need to provide Health and Medical forms only. We have access to the other documents in Avela.

Protecting Your Child from Ticks

Tick Identification Card showing nymph, male, and female deer ticks and American dog ticks, all at actual size.
Ticks are out in full force. This time of year, adult ticks are active and Nymph ticks have also hatched and pose a threat due to their tiny size.

Here are some important ways to protect your child (and yourself).

  • Wear light colored clothing so ticks are more visible.
  • Cover all exposed skin areas such as ankles, arms, and legs with clothing. Clothing can be treated with Permethrin Spray (good for 6 washings). Permethrin Spray is available through Amazon or Walmart.
  • If skin areas are exposed, use a spray that contains DEET directly on skin.
  • Ticks love to attach to skin areas in warmer parts of the body- ears, armpits, behind knees, groin area, and scalp. Be sure to do a TICK CHECK on the front and back of your child’s body every day they are active outdoors.
  • Avoid walking/ playing/ hiking in heavily wooded or grassy areas. Hike in the middle of trails. Avoid leaf piles. TIcks thrive in shaded areas so it would make sense to put swing sets and other backyard play areas in sunny areas if possible.

The following websites have excellent information on ticks, prevention, and tick borne diseases:

Fun Opportunity for Green Team Volunteers (and their kids!)

Dear Lincoln School Composting Volunteers,

Thank you so much for your awesome support this school year! Since January, we have had six amazing volunteers helping out over multiple days. While this number is down from twenty unique volunteers from September-December, we still LOVE our volunteers and whether you joined us for one session or many, we truly appreciate YOU and your time.

As we look ahead to the end year, we are in dire need of volunteers and would be delighted to see you again– or to have you help spread the word about this important work we are doing in our school with others who might also be interested in volunteering.

If you'd like to spend time with your child as you volunteer, your child is welcome to join you at the compost table if they would like to pull up a chair and eat their lunch with you, don a pair of composting gloves, or use the coveted composting tongs!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or suggestions. Thank you again for your invaluable support!

Most sincerely,

Gwen Blumberg & Nicole McDonagh
